SEOmoz recently provided an API to their search engine optimization service, and inevitably comparisons were made to Site Explorer, which is a similar service offered by Yahoo. In a field where stats are king, the 500 links offered by the free SEOmoz service seemed to come up short against the 1000 links offered by Site Explorer. That has now changed, with SEOmoz doubling their volume of data available with their free API.
Microsoft continues to built out its cogitative services API portfolio with two more APIs now generally available. The Bing Custom Search API and v7 of the Bing Search API are both GA and ready for production use. The Customer Search API enables targeted searches, and v7 adds filtering.
Developers looking for trends in Twitter search are finding it more difficult now that the micro-blogging site has decreased the search history to four days. Previously going back weeks and months, the backlog has steadily decreased, now too short for some types of applications. At the same time, the newer streams have become the go-to API for former search use cases.
