A number of ad tech sources reported that Snapchat has engaged select ad partners for an advertising API development. Snapchat declined to comment, but many have anticipated an advertising API from Snapchat. While an ad API makes sense, Snapchat has an unfortunate history with API vulnerabilities.
The process of taking your photos and sharing them online with your friends has never been easier. There are several services available to do that today like TwitPic, YFrog and others. The success of Instagram even led to an unofficial API, which was subsequently shut down to be eventually replaced with its official API. The photo sharing services space seems ripe for the emergence of APIs, which in turn might trigger the next round of innovation from developers.
According to a report published by TechCrunch, Snapchat is secretly planning to launch a developer platform, its first ever. Dubbed Snapkit, prototypes of the platform suggest it will give developers access to Snap's camera software so that they can integrate it into their applications.
