PubNub utilizes a Publish/Subscribe model for real-time data streaming and device signaling which allows for establishing and maintaining a persistent socket connection to any device and push data to global audiences. PubNub also supports several other Ruby SDK's including: Demo Console, Translator, PubNub LiveStream, Sinatra Demo, and Sub & Pub.
YouTube have announced that that they are making a notable change to their YouTube API. The API, which returns results in both XML and JSON, is getting an upgrade on the JSON side, and the change is different enough that they are giving the format a new name JSON-C.
Twitch made API news this week with new endpoints and a developer invitation to discuss rate limit increases. The new endpoints allow developers to get and create clips, and retrieve the top games on Twitch. Twitch opened a dedicated email box specifically for fielding rate limit increase requests.
Facebook is apparently in talks with music video site Vevo to take over streaming of the videos from YouTube once the contract runs out. That would take the company's more than 30,000 videos out of the YouTube API. In another story, AppFog has expanded its platform-as-a-service offering to include database and email from within your apps. That and 11 new APIs rounds out today in APIs.
