The Rackspace Ruby SDK is a development kit that lets developers integrate multiple different Rackspace APIs with their applications, using Ruby. Some of the Rackspace services that this SDK supports include Cloud Files, Cloud Block Storage, and Cloud DNS.
Popular cloud-stored notes app Evernote recently announced its first contest. Developers can use the Evernote API to build apps that help users remember and track anything using photos and text. The contest is serious, with big prizes: $50,000 to the winner, and $50,000 more in prizes up for grabs.
While there’s no doubt that the influence of developers has never been greater, a debate is starting to emerge concerning how much power developers now wield across the enterprise. At the Red Hat 2014 Summit last week, Deepak Advani, IBM general manager for cloud and smarter infrastructure, told attendees that developers are now the kingmakers of enterprise IT. To back up that claim Advani noted that not only do developers today decide what APIs will be published, but increasingly they determine what technologies are actually deployed.
