After beta testing for almost a year, the Facebook Credits API is finally being opened to all developers. Before beta testing the service had been in very limited alpha testing for over six months before that. On July 1st, more than two years after the social networking site started working on the system, all Facebook-based games that process payments will be required to use only Facebook Credits. The 350 applications granted early access already account for 70% of such transactions. Facebook credits can be purchased by users at a rate of $0.10 each (with an additional 10 free when buying 100) and redeemed by application developers for $0.07, leaving Facebook with the balance.
Slice, the ultimate online shopping assistant, has launched the Slice API. The Slice API allows third party apps to integrate Slice features such as price drop alerts, tracking packages, spending tracking, email receipts and more. Slice is currently recruiting developers to test the API and build apps upon the Slice platform. Slice is dedicated to changing the way online shoppers interact with the products they buy online, and the Slice API sits at the heart of its mission.
Kooaba offers image recognition through its Kooaba API, allowing you to compile metadata on objects in your photos. This can be used for product recognition and pricing, but could also be used to augment personal photo collections, which can be so large that they are nearly impossible to search by hand. There are tons of use cases for image recognition and this API should really open up the field and bring more applications to market.
