Goo Technologies, leader in HTML5 high-end graphics for interactive visualizations, has collaborated with Mozilla to create an interactive graphics and music application that demonstrates the features of the latest Firefox release. The demo, Songs of Diridum, showcases the Web Audio API utilized in the latest Firefox release. Before the Web Audio API, a third party was needed to effectively add audio to web apps (i.e. plugins, Flash, etc.). Web Audio embeds audio processing, filtering, and other modern audio features directly into applications.
Twitch made API news this week with new endpoints and a developer invitation to discuss rate limit increases. The new endpoints allow developers to get and create clips, and retrieve the top games on Twitch. Twitch opened a dedicated email box specifically for fielding rate limit increase requests.
In this post I'll describe how we planned, built and tested a truly real-time location-based game with Socket.io, Redis, Node.js, and what we learned along the way. Over the past few months, we've spent the majority our free time building a real-time game as a test for our location platform, Geoloqi. We call the game MapAttack! due to its map-based nature. Two teams compete to capture the most points on the gameboard. The gameboard, in this case, is the city streets of the neighborhood the players are in.
