Canon, HP, Samsung and Xerox Launch Mopria Alliance to Promote Mobile Printing Standards and Interoperability
Canon, HP, Samsung Electronics and Xerox have announced the launch of the Mopria Alliance, a brand new non-profit membership organization that was created to promote and increase the accessibility of wireless printing from smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. The need for printing functionality to be possible from a wide range of devices has led to an increase in the number of available printing APIs. At the time of this writing, there are 45 printing APIs listed in the ProgrammableWeb API directory.
The non-profit built for "opening America's government" has created an app to show off its Congressional data, as well as its API (our Sunlight Labs API profile). You can't get this app on the web, though, as it's available exclusively for the Android phone platform.
Developers interested in porting their apps from Android to Windows 10 may be out of luck. Microsoft has all but canned Project Astoria, the app-porting tool it planned to offer developers. Microsoft is instead focusing on porting iOS, web, and Win32 apps, leaving Android developers in the cold.
