To provide more options in searching for relevant contacts, Microsoft has decided to transition WorkingWith API users to its new People API. The People API not only provides more robust metadata than the WorkingWith API, the People API includes greater browse/search functionality and ranking system.
Locu, one of CNN's hot startups to watch, has released an API that exposes Locu's database of business information to third party developers. Locu launched the Locu API at Tech Disrupt SF 2012 and drew immediate attention. The API allows developers to retrieve real-time business data (e.g. venue information, pricelists, menus, etc.) and integrate the data into existing applications. Locu's index crawls the web for business data, and the API makes that data available to other websites and applications.
It's no secret that Facebook's Graph API and widgets have contributed a great to Facebook's success and never-ending permeation of the web as we know it. Looking to make a similar move, LinkedIn has recently expanded its own developer platform and LinkedIn API. The new LinkedIn tools aren't just aimed at developers.
