Facebook just announced its acquisition of SportStream. Although SportStream identifies itself as a "group of die-hard sports fans," the story underneath the acquisition truly represents an API story. Over the past few months, Facebook has been building its developer toolkit with an armory of new APIs and media partners have begun to flock to its new capabilities. The platform underlying SportStream, SportsBase, and its associated API will give Facebook greater visibility into sports-based conversations across the social media ecosystem.
In the densely populated world of social media, it can become difficult for businesses to identify who best to engage with in order to achieve what they need to on the web; it’s hard to tell the real experts and the influential from those who simply aren’t. Little Bird is a platform that exists to tackle this issue. The service provides tools that allow users to quickly identify and engage with the right experts in their relevant fields, and in so doing, take the necessary steps towards building that respected expert status themselves. Little Bird also provides the Little Bird API that allows developers to use this service and integrate it with other applications.
Canadian based startup LoginRadius is a Software As A Service (SAAS) provider of social infrastructure (Social Login and Social Sharing) that is currently used by over 25,000 websites. Despite being a fairly new service (The company was founded in May 2011), LoginRadius has expanded rapidly, partly in thanks to the LoginRadius API.
