Parse, a leading backend-as-a-Service mobile SDK provider, has launched a new service called Cloud Code making it possible for app developers to add custom backend code that is easily accessible by any client (iOS, Android, HTML5, or via the REST API) without servers.
At Google I/O, the developer conference in San Francisco taking place this week, the search giant announced a Siri-like service, Google Now. Users can ask questions and get answers directly in what they call "smart cards." Those cards, with flight delays and sports scores, update automatically. And you'd better believe that within each of these cards is an API call.
Developers interested in porting their apps from Android to Windows 10 may be out of luck. Microsoft has all but canned Project Astoria, the app-porting tool it planned to offer developers. Microsoft is instead focusing on porting iOS, web, and Win32 apps, leaving Android developers in the cold.
