The Tumblr iOS SDK by Bryan Irace, developer at Tumblr, aims to be an unopinionated library to integrate data into mobile iOS and desktop OS X applications. It requires iOS 5 and OS X 10.7. Contents include CocoaPods, documentation, authentication, API client, inter-app communication, UI features, and example.
Topsy, a search tool based on real-time social media activity, has unveiled a new service called Topsy Social Analytics that tracks the rise and fall in popularity of specific pieces of online content as well as broader trends in online discussion. The analytics tool, like the Topsy API, uses publicly available data from Twitter to rank content and identify trends.
The business networking site LinkedIn has now launched a new application platform they call InApps. It's an OpenSocial-based platform that enables third-party developers to create applications that get embedded into LinkedIn user's profiles. While this follows along the model used of Facebook, MySpace and host of other social platforms, it differs in its emphasis on being business centric in nature and, like the service itself, follows a much more controlled and button-downed approach. And like the LinkedIn API that we reported on last year, access is limited based on an approval process.
Facebook has announced that it will soon upgrade Graph API v2.3 users to v2.4. The automatic upgrade will take place on July 10th as part of Facebook's 2 year deprecation cycle. Significant changes from v2.3 to v2.4 require pre-migration attention from developers to avoid app disruption.
