The United States Postal Service has devoted significant resources to providing customers with reliable online services including APIs for address and delivery information, rate calculators, shipping labels and carrier pickup. But apparently this holiday season their web service customers were met with something they did not want to see: a series of extended outages during the second week of December left customers helplessly awaiting a return of service.
Germany-based "business social network" XING announced this week that the XING API is now officially out of beta, and invited external developers to register for access at dev.xing.com. Since March of this year, the XING API has been available as a "closed beta," and XING reported that over three thousand developers tried out the API during that period, "creating almost 150 active apps and producing around 17 million API requests per day."
ProPublica has extended the sunset date of the Sunlight Congress API so users will have more time to move their applications to the ProPublica Congress API. ProPublica took over the Sunlight Congress API this past November after Sunlight Foundation announced plans to shut down Sunlight Labs.
