A project partnership funded by the European Commission has today announced it is making €100 million ($USD140 million) available to entrepreneurs and startups around the world who use the Future Internet’s Open API Platform FI-WARE to create a prototype ‘smart city’ application.
Two months ago I was looking for a side project to spend my time on keeping the saw sharp. I noticed there was no central place to find jobs related to my favorite technology: APIs. There were a lot of API-focused companies out there looking to hire, and a lot of companies looking to hire people specifically to work on API integrations, but no central place to connect employers with candidates that shared their passion for all things HTTP. I found a suitable domain and two months later, API Jobs was born.
Panelists and presenters at last week's Open Government West 2011 conference in Portland, Oregon tackled the topic of government sponsored app contests. Attendees asserted that not all app contests are designed the same way and there are different benefits and drawbacks with each kind. An overarching issue seemed to be the value returned to the public on government investment in app contests. Governments are looking for the best way to offer services to the public in the face of budget cuts and are eyeing citizen generated apps.
