As business computing migrates to SaaS applications, developers must address the problem of the data silos the software creates. APIs let you move data in and out of these online applications but, they present a new set of problems: managing data in several applications using several APIs.
FinancialForce.com, focused on building cloud based business applications on the Force.com platform, has released an API for its accounting application (i.e. The FinancialForce Accounting API). The API gives access to the entire suite of accounting tools available through the accounting platform (e.g. cash management, reporting and dashboards, ordering and billing, etc.). Although FinancialForce.com built the application with Force.com, and the target audience began with Force.com developers, the application has been integrated with many platforms and APIs (e.g. Google Apps, Basecamp, Facebook, PayPal, etc.)
Popular "hyperlocal" news and information service Outside.in recently released an API (our Outside.in API Profile) that provides developers with a way to access up-to-the-minute, location-based news. Based on its “news around you” feature, Radar, the API provides access to various types of information, including the latest news stories, blog posts, Twitter tweets and more located within 1,000 feet of a specific location.
