There are trillions of dollars in transactions that to this day still depend on mainframes to be processed. This means any API economy that wants to succeed must ultimately include one of the most venerable platforms in all of enterprise IT.
Additional third party integration with Gmail has been possible (you only have to look at all the contact import features from sites like Facebook), but these have either been clunky manual procedures that involve exporting contacts to a CVS file, or they require you to supply your email password. Neither option is all that attractive. Now there is an alternative. Google have recently added the ability to access the IMAP/SMTP features of particular Gmail account using OAuth.
With developers already sourcing code snippets to cut and paste into their dev projects, Runnable has launched to provide a “YouTube of code” social network. Runnable have calculated there are over 200 million code searches each month, as developers look to stand on the shoulders of giants – or at least each other – when creating quick, workable solutions to include in their projects.
